 הערה |
From the Luther Genealogy-- They were substantial farmers and Citizens, removing from Swansea, MA to Ellisburg, NY in about 1801, he driving their cow the entire distance of some 350 miles. In 1803 he was chosen commissioner of Highways for Ellisburg. They are buried in the Saxe Cemetery at Ellisburg and inscriptions are: "Jeremiah Mason April 4, 1848, ae. 92 yes.--Phebe Luther Mason, his wife, May 18, 1831, ea. 69 yrs." There is a possibility that the reason for this family settling in Ellisburg was that about the same time, probably a year of two earlier, Hannah Luther and family had settled in town, and while they were fourth cousins, they both lived in Swansea, which may have influenced the decision. (Notes from Edward H. L. Mason 6/99)
